Your Toxic Love
By Minahil Mehr
“If you have ever been betrayed by the one you love, know that they lost someone who truly loved them whilst you lost someone who did not truly love you, and that you are deserving of better because you are worth so much more.”
Lies and deceptions, they were all you ever were,
I failed to see so, and therefore my path I could not deter.
A mark you left so permanently upon my heart,
A poison you put in me that tears me apart.
Your once sweet words are now a blade,
So many wounds they have opened and made.
With my heart and soul, I trusted you,
Yet you failed to love me true.
I believed the bright smile on your face, but I indeed did not know,
That underneath that smile lied a toxin waiting to grow.
You left me stranded, broken and weak,
You knoweth not of my heart’s sorrow, only what my words speak.
Your toxic love broke me apart only to build me up once more,
With more courage and more strength than ever before.
Your toxic love tried to tear my soul and heart and leave me stranded,
Yet I developed benefit from it, it did not leave me empty-handed.
Your toxic love taught me to be even more brave and strong,
My pain may have been unbearable, but it indeed was not for long.
