Pearl Eyes

A Poem By Hannah Nguyen

with every step you take

pearls fill up where

your feet once were

people greedily follow you,

grabbing the pearls left behind “more, more”, they beg

you hear their pleading voices and turn around

once seeing your eyes

their own became hollow

and with arms stretched outward, they pick at your beautiful pearls

while they fight amongst themselves, no longer able to see,

pearls still at your feet,

you walk aimlessly

missing the skyline

in spite of that,

your ears which had only brought you the cries of people

now focus on

the ocean waves

you had never noticed before
