“Mountain of Steel,” “Fire with Fire,” & “A Sea of Hope”

Poems by Minahil Mehr

Mountain of Steel

Majestic, graceful, strong, and high,

Shelters nature and salutes the sky.

Watches over the sea, the rocks, the sands,

Mother of the vast grasslands.

One can lift and move, if oneself would only believe,

With the might of the Earth and sky, one can heave.

With the blessing of the sun and the moon, with the judgement of fate and its seal,

With might and strength, one can indeed melt the formidable mountain of steel.

Fire with Fire

Hardships will fall, problems will unveil,

What shall one do, listen, and let me tell thee a tale.

When all is born, it starts small with little might,

When it is sparked, only then doth it ignite.

And then lo, the spark becomes a single dancing flame,

Only time can tell from where it came.

Now halt, do not fight fire with fire,

For it will only fuel the single flame to raise higher.

Fire and fire doth only burn,

When they spread, never away do they turn.

But fear not, for a solution there is indeed,

Now listen ye well for what thy doth need.

Panic not at the ignition of fire,

Remain calm and patient, for hope is never dire.

Let the rivers of resilience and the oceans of endurance protect thee,

For these waters will indeed quench the fire, and thy shall be free.

A Sea of Hope

Waves that glisten with the sun and dance with the moonlight,

The rhythmic sounds of water in the darkness of the night.

Vast and graceful, connected, and endless,

A companion away from land, not leaving one defenceless.

For there is hope in unity, and suffering in rivalry,

Different branches but roots of the same tree.
