SO-CALLED WORTH OF WAR
One may justify it to be right,
Say “for my nation I must valiantly fight”.
But is it worth it to take a life,
To pierce into someone’s heart a merciless knife.
To take away a father from his children, to break a mother’s heart,
Instead of finishing a conflict, only fuelling its start.
To kill a man, is it really one’s right?
To hear innocent screams echoing through the night.
To massacre a group is not strong,
To justify that is even more wrong.
To shed blood as a solution can never be right,
One will always be haunted by such a sight.
To live with the guilt till the day one will die,
In peace in the afterlife the soul will never lie.
BITTER-SWEET DEATH
Death is a salvation, both bitter and sweet,
Individuals are not separated, rather through reunion they meet.
To welcome death is different from fear,
Welcoming death is to accept it if it is near.
To fear death is to fear letting go,
To fear what lies after, what one does not know.
Rather death is a salvation, a grasp onto hope,
One should cling to it tightly as if gripping a rope.
Death is always just simply postponed, not that one doesn’t die,
When the time comes, one should accept it bravely, or at least try.
A SINGLE CANDLELIGHT
"I wrote this poem having been inspired by my year seven English teacher who was and still is the candlelight that lights my way, I have met many people but none could be the same. She taught me to prosper on and that even if I felt as if I'm standing alone, I would always have someone, and through this poem I hope to pass on the same message to many others and instill the same courage she instilled into me.”
A lone flame that flickers in the dark,
The burning fire on the wick leaves a mark.
Struggling against the wind and the cold,
Its light in evil, the darkness it does unfold.
Strength lies not in numbers rather in oneself,
Even if it is a single candle alone on the shelf.
