Maiden Versus World
By Minahil Mehr
Beautiful goddess, a maiden so fair,
One of a kind in the lands she dwells on, oh so rare.
Owner of spirits held within a box so small,
Could one have known the lasting effects of their release? Not at all.
Such a time did cometh when she opened the chest,
Releasing evil curses upon her people, mankind and all the rest.
From within the box flew out greed, hatred, pain, and envy,
Coupled with disease, hunger, war, death, and poverty.
The fair maiden did shut the chest, and within it remained but one,
A single speck of hope that doth glisten so brightly like the sun.
Fair maiden stepped and dwelled to lands of the far,
Holding onto the hope, cherishing it like a precious star.
And so, the fair maiden with mankind suffered as the sands of time fell,
And the tale of fair Pandora’s box, many did tell.
Maiden as one against the world so vast,
To leave behind and cling onto hope for a future to illuminate the dark past.
